This 2-hour documentary is about a family that suffered through the disease of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). When we came across the Goodall Family, Kenny was at his final stages of ALS. At this stage, Kenny’s entire body was almost completely shut down accept for his mind. His only ways of communicating were through signs he made with eye movements and noises for his wife Karen to try to interpret.
During her on-camera interview Karen said the when she and Kenny first met at a church Bible study, they hit it off immediately... so much so that she could literally “finish his every sentence.” Now he was completely depending on her for that very gift. She sat by his side night and day while trying to also care for their six young children living through the reality of watching their beloved father deteriorate right before their very eyes.
However...what was truly remarkable about this family was their very strong Christian faith and joy amidst the most difficult time of their lives. This deeply emotional, life-changing documentary is not only about the realities of the ALS disease and the challenges of suffering through it to the end, but also about how this strong family was brought through it all by the strength they found in God.
It’s a truly amazing story of how a community reached out for a family in need; of how a builders association gave Kenny peace he needed by rebuilding his home so he knew his family would be taken care of; and how a courageous family of eight chose to find the hidden beauty the lies beneath suffering.
